Sports Therapy at Heathcote Chiropractic Clinic

Woman stretchingWhether you enjoy rugby, cricket, tennis or another sport, you want to perform at your athletic best and avoid injuries and pain. At Heathcote Chiropractic Clinic, we are passionate about helping athletes of various levels enhance their bodies, whether that be reducing aches and pains, increasing mobility and fitness, or recovering and preventing an injury.

Sports therapy can benefit anyone who wants to improve their physical and mental wellbeing.

What to Expect

Please wear clothing that allows the therapist to access the area you want to be treated easily; the clothing should also be comfortable enough to do big movements and exercises.

We recommend arriving early to your first appointment to allow time to complete the initial patient and consent forms. Please bring any scans or further investigations you had taken previously for us to look over.

Examination

Next, the sports therapist will thoroughly examine the area that is causing you issues. This will involve going through some specific tests to get to the source of the issue (eg, neural, strength, ligament and tendon testing). The therapist may also palpate the area to feel for any muscular tightness; this part may be more tender because the therapist will feel for the painful parts in the muscle (trigger points/pressure points).

We offer a broad array of sports therapy methods and techniques:

  • Sports Massage
  • Laser Therapy
  • Trigger Points

  • Fascia Release
  • Joint Mobilising

  • Stretching
  • Exercising

The therapist will then let you know what they believe is the cause of your ailment, recommend therapies, and advise you on how often you should come in for treatment. You will also be given exercises to do at home that could involve stretching and strengthening.

How is sports therapy different at your clinic?

As an up-and-coming method of treating pain, sports therapy is a more manual type of therapy. It often focuses on improving the muscular system using massage, exercises and stretching. Sports therapy is being used in chiropractic clinics to enhance the treatment.

Having a mixture of both chiropractic and sports therapy treatments aids with the recovery and function of both the spinal and muscular systems, giving you a more holistic treatment.
