Orthotics

Structural problems in your feet may alter your walking pattern and could be a cause of pain in different parts of the body.By evaluating the way you walk (gait analysis) we can determine if you are a candidate for prescription foot orthotics.

Custom foot orthotics are devices worn in your shoes that provide correction and assistance to your feet, helping them to function in a more efficient manner. Poor foot function and alignment can affect your whole posture and may be the cause of pain in your feet, knees, hips or spine. By realigning and stabilizing the bones in your feet with orthotics, your natural walking pattern may be restored.

In addition to a physical examination, a gait analysis is done to evaluate your foot function. The system used in the clinic to perform gait analysis is called the Gaitscan. The Gaitscan is a computerised pressure plate that is attached to a computer. As you walk across the plate it captures the distribution of pressure throughout the sole of your foot thereby helping to identify abnormal foot function.

How would I know if I had a problem?

The symptoms of faulty foot mechanics may include any one of the following:

  1. Localised foot pain
  2. Bunions, hammer toes
  3. Arch / Heel pain
  4. Leg / knee pain
  5. Hip or back pain – even neck pain

If you suffer from any of these problems, give us a call to find out if you may be a candidate to have a Gaitscan performed.
